Objective

A strong objective provides a clear end goal for the project. Before drafting or creating any learning products, I ensure my objectives are concise, measurable, and achievable for the targeted audience. Then, I will unwrap the objective to identify the steps or scaffolds needed for success. During this stage, I work with subject matter experts to break down the objective and understand the audience.

Storyboard

With an unwrapped objective, the storyboard process is streamlined. First, I create a table in Excel or Word that focuses on adult learning theory and the interactions between learner and materials. These tables outline the layout of information, the options for interactivity, and engagement strategies. Once I am satisfied with the pacing, I begin to write out the details such as the text on each screen, the script for any audio components, and connections between the pages. If needed, I use Storyline 360's story view to outline the flow of the slides.

Prototype

A prototype is necessary to guarantee the interactive aspects of the design will work as expected. During this stage of the design process, I am focused on how the learner will approach the lesson and the layout of the design. I often refer back to the Quality Matters rubrics during the design to ensure the lesson is accessible to all learners, easy to follow instructions, and a seamless interface.

Developement

With the interface and the storyboard created, I begin to assemble all the parts. This includes gathering the media, recording the voice over, crafting the questions, and creating any digital art needed for the final design. It is my favorite part of the process.

Refine and Publish

Once the information is all placed together, I run through the project to ensure quality. I refer back to the Quality Matters rubric to guide my attention and place the finishing touches before publishing.
